battery always dead!! power management issue

Nothing wrong with my battery, I can use it for hours at a time but.., I can't figure out how to set my power management correctly. I have SP4 typecover on my SP3. It's inconsistent.. about 75 percent of the time when I go to use my laptop a day after it has a full charge it's dead.. sometimes it's sitting next to me in the car and I pick it up and it's hot and I can tell it's still running .. fans are going as well, this is hours after closing it. Is this a known issue? I've had this problem for at least a year. Really annoying because I never trust that it's going to have any charge when I open it up. Someone without these issues can you please post your power management settings? or a link?
