Question about SP3 serial numbers

Does the first three numbers of the serial represent order of manufacturer? Example, 03xxxxxxxxxxx was made before 05xxxxxxxxxxxx?

Trying to figure out if I am getting a refurb or a new SP3 for my return.

No idea. Serial numbers are often not so obviously encoded. one company I worked for had numbers encoded such that you could run them through a formula to determine if they were legitimate although that formula was not widely known.

I believe Lot# is more telling. To my knowledge the first 2 digits represents the year and the last 2 digits represent the week number of manufacture.

It is found on the label that is affixed to packaging container for your device. That same label also has your serial#.

I sell hundreds of Surface units, and the serials seem to be quite random - even on units from the same lot and batch.
