Quick Notes not appearing in OneNote App

On my Surface Pro 4 if I create a quick note and open OneNote 2016 I see it in the "Quick Notes" section below the list of my Notebooks. However, when I open OneNote (the App) I don't see the quick note anywhere. Even if I go into options in the OneNote app and specify a default notebook I don't see the quick note. It doesn't even show in the Quick Notes section that got added to the notebook when I set it as default. Is that normal? I would think that quick notes would show somewhere no matter which version I was using. Any help would be appreciated. I am new to Windows 10 and the Surface.
