Recovery Partition Surface Pro

I read somewhere that you can copy the recovery partition on to an external and delete it off the HD to make more room. Can this be done at any time or does the system need to be restored to do it?

you don't have to restore before copying the recovery partition. this guy on youtube has a pretty good walkthrough:

I did it following these directions from the MS site, worked like a Pro (pun intended). Increase Surface storage space | USB recovery drive for Surface

I'm waiting to see windows 7 on the surface pro.
