Screenshot saves photo but screen doesn't dim

Screenshot saves photo but screen doesn't dim to let you know it has taken the screenshot. when I first used this feature(first few months I owned the sp3) it did dim when holding windows button and then the volume down button, but for some reason the momentary dimming stopped happening. Any suggestions.

Could you specify which version of windows you are running?

Windows 8 now but the problem started well before 8 came out, I can't remember what version of windows was running when the problem started.

If it was a Surface Pro 3 it had to have come with at least 8.
