Battery drain overnight while shutdown

Lately, after I shutdown (full shutdown, not sleep or hibernate) my fully charged Surface Laptop 2 at night, I turn it on in the morning and find that the battery has lost around 25% power overnight! What's going on and how can I fix this?

The laptop is only about 6 months old and the battery seems to be in good health.

Here is the data from a battery report. Note the overnight drops on 2019-08-16 from 100% to 72% and 2019-08-17 from 98% to 73%.

Just lost 12% while my computer was off for a few hours. Something is definitely wrong. What could possibly be draining power like this while it is completely turned off?

Same thing here. My device Surface Laptop 1st gen. Only four months old. It was having no complaints on battery drain issue till twenty days back. But now, after a full shutdown overnight is causing battery drain from 100% to 74% always. Is there a recent windows update issue causing this or what, I don't know. During this period, I have installed few softwares like Visual Studio 2019 community edition, Jetbrains Resharper tool, JDK 1.8 and ANDROID sdk. I'm very upset on this issue. Because, each morning to have a fresh look of my laptop is the same story happening for last couple of weeks.

Some research suggested that the problem might be with Window's "Fast Startup" feature. I tried deactivating this feature, but still lost 8% overnight.

This is unacceptable for a supposedly premium device.

Okay, new development (if anyone is even following this).

Check this out, supposedly I lost over 20% while my PC was shut down for less than 20 minutes... That's not possible! Not for a perfectly healthy battery that functions as expected for several hours when the PC is actually in use.

So it has to be that the battery isn't actually draining, the software is just reading its charge wrong, right?

@joeblow7777 is closest to the truth. The battery life estimator is prone to the same inaccuracies when re-activating as GPS routing software is when restarting.

As evidence, track how quickly the battery re-charges to full. Is it faster than normal recharge from 80% to full? The battery draw stabilizes a bit after restart, allowing for better estimation of charge.

But “Fast Boot” should be disabled for best charge retention, of course.

I have a 1 year old Surface Pro 6 Core i5 and have yet to experience this issue, but it seems to be affecting a lot of Core i7 Surface Pro 6's ALSO. Overnight, my device powers back up with at least 96% battery.

If it goes to sleep just for an hour or so, there is practically no loss in battery ie: "sleep at 100%, wake 2 hours later to 100%". Any Core i5 Surface Laptop 2 users here experiencing this issue?

This is a known issue since the times of Surface Pro 4 at least. Mine (SP4 i5) never lasted a whole day turned off without losing almost all the charge. Doing nothing. Not even when it was new, and I learned that this was the case with many people.
Premium? Not for power management.
