battery indicator and surface pro keyboard

My battery indicator only shows % no time and also my keyboard ( surface pro 3) is not back lighting at all
Any ideas how to see if i can fix them

Percentage for battery indicator is normal for Connected Standby devices.

For the keyboard back light there is brightness function keys at the top of the keyboard(i think above F2 and F3?). Use them to adjust to back light level.

Thanks for the info and yes f2 is the button to make the back-light work in the keyboard.
Now i need to get the time remaining on the battery gauge to work
Any ideas

That is not how the Power Settings work on any modern Connected Standby Machine, you will get percentages. You can install a 3rd Party Product like Battery Bar, many do but it isn't Connected Standby Aware and tends to give flakey results...

but my surface pro 2 shows time and percentage when i put my cursor over the battery icon

Surface Pro 2 isn't a Connected Standby enabled machine, it uses a legacy Power Management Interface.
