Best Buy Surface Trade In

It looks like Best Buy is doing a special trade in program for the Surface and Surface Pro that ends the day before the second generation tablets are released. Page states that you would receive $200 minimum but when you click to find out the trade in value, the numbers are different.

Online Trade In: Cell Phone Trade In, Computer Trade In - Best Buy

I looked around and didn't see that anyone else had posted about this, so forgive me if I missed something.

That link looks like a generic trade-in program for Best Buy, not something specific to Surface (no mention of Surface anywhere). Microsoft has essentially the same thing, probably many other stores. As for the actual calculator:

Now compare to some completed (sold) eBay listings for the lowest spec, Surface RT 32GB:

The ones that sold October 11 averaged $290, varying between totally busted up to "brand new," some with Touch cover and some without. When the bare tablet could be sold on eBay for just under $300 right now, clearly the trade-in programs--including Microsoft's own--are rip-offs. :)

That's not even mentioning that the lowest spec Pro v1 is still getting around $600-700 average on eBay.

Apparently the link has changed. If you hit the arrow key on the banner near the top it will take you to the Surface specific page.

Edit: I never said it was a good deal. I just noticed they had a specific promotion for it and thought it was worth noting for those that don't want to use ebay.

Ah, I see.

And it's true, trade-ins are pure convenience. Craigslist might be easier, but there's still an element of risk too.

Trade offers are always a rip. Just don't understand why people that do not intend to use it, get all up in arms. Obviously there are people that are willing to use that offer.

I bought the surface pro not realizing the pro 2 being released a week later. Saw the commercial for the pro 2 and immediately went to best buy with the receipt. 13 days later, I only had to pay $100 more. Got lucky.

Got a new screen guard along with the last type cover 2 for free.
