Can I change the Book2 keyboard backlight default setting?

I want my SB2 keyboard backlighting to remain OFF by default when I start up the computer (or open it from sleep). RIght now it by default turns itself ON, and in some ambient lighting conditions I cannot even see the letters on the keyboard (the illumination closely matches the silver color of the keys)

Is this possible via a registry change? App setting? I've found nothing in Windows 10 SETTINGS.

This question has been asked by others previously, 5 and 6 years ago respectively -- but then with no resolution. So...giving it one more try in case someone has figured this out in the years since
