Do I need the Minidisplay to hdmi converter or can I just use a single cable that has thunderbolt and hdmi connector?

I believe you're referring to a mini-Displayport to HDMI cable. I have one of those and it works great. I also have a mini-displayport > displayport cable and it works fine as well.

The SP3 does NOT have thunderbolt, only USB3.

Oh ok I figured they were the same thing since every item said mini displayport (thunderbolt). Thanks for the info!

I can't see why not. I frequently use the same cable to go to a projector.

Edit- ok not that SAME cable, but the same style cable, MDP to HDMI...

Oh projector guy! What are you running? I got a panasonic pt-ae2000u and still is holding up after 7 yrs.

An Epson EX7210 at the training room here at work. It works great as Netflix and movie screen when I'm working on projects in the evening.... :D

Thats awesome! people underestimate how much the home movie experience changes on a projector. Now I wish we had presentations at work lol just to justify getting a projector for lunch time movies.
