Future OS updates

Is it possible that future updates would increase the speed of apps opening and browsing speed or is that a hardware issue in this first generation Surface?

It is likely, that future updates will increase speed and stability - some user reported faster response of IE10 after the last update. However, in my opinion an arm-driven-tab will always be a tad slower than a full x86-machine.

Thanks for the response. I also purchased the IPad 4 last week, the Apple device is extremely well polished and lightening fast. Its not really fair to compare apples to oranges being that the Surface is the first generation Microsoft Tablet....but hard for me at this point to justify the $500.00 for a device that I must use as a work tool. I am doing my best to maintain patience.
