LG 3840x1440 on Surface Pro 3 i5

I have the LG 34UM95 and SP3 i5, updated with latest drivers - also using the dock.
When connecting the mini-displayport to the LG's thunderbolt connection, I get nothing, no screen on either the dock or the tablet mini-dp connector.

Do I need to get a mini-displayport to displayport cable instead? I was under the impression the i5 supported this resolution...

I'm using that exact monitor with a mini-displayport to displayport and it works pretty great. Waking up from sleep is problematic most of the time, but I doubt that's a problem with the monitor. Seems to be a common problem with the SP3 in general.

The wake issue seems to be common to displayport in general. Whether Lenovo or Microsoft we have some users with the problems and others without. With my previous monitors I had endless trouble with the Surface. Since I switched to the Dell p2715q those issues are 99% resolved.

Thanks all - I guess I have verified that mini-DP to mini-DP doesn't work.
mini-DP to DP cable on the way from Amazon. looking forward to having the monitor up and running tomorrow!
This one explicitly says 1.2 compliant: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00A7R9I22/ref=gno_cart_title_0?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER
Thanks for the tip on this one as well: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00C7RJQPY/ref=gno_cart_title_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A1AMUYYA3CT6HJ

Wondering if 1.1a vs 1.2 makes any difference in our application?
