NEW: *.mkv support in xbox video!

Great news: todays update of xbox video app on win 8.1 (x86 and arm) includes *.mkv support, finally! Tried few videos, all working ok. I just can't figure out how to add subtitles

So you are saying that subtitles play ok? if so do you know if the subtitle was added or already in the video?
Since an .mkv is a container format it would seem the ability to add subtitles is basically another add-on...

No, what I'm saying is that I cannot figure out how to make subtitles work. I will try these tools that you linked when I have time, thanks!
