Type 4 cover backlight issue

Hi- is there a way to keep the backlight always on with the surface pro 4 type cover with fingerprint?
The backlight goes off if you are not typing for a few seconds and you have to press a key to get the light back on. When I am typing in a dark room it is annoying to have to find the keys every few seconds if I stop to think about what to type next. Thanks.

Wondering as well. If this is normal, what a dumb decision by MS in having to press a key to have the light come on.

What happens if you press F2 (w/o FN lock on) multiple times?
