USB charging?

On the AC adapter, there's a USB port. Can I use a USB cable to connect the SP2 to the AC adapter and charge it this way? Of course I'd much prefer to use the magnetic port for charging. Just wondering if somehow the magnetic connector is damaged, would I still be able to charge via USB? If yes, would it be slower? Thanks,

No, you cannot charge the Surface Pro through the USB port. The USB port on the charger is for various other, lower powered devices/accessories that can charge on +5V.

The Surfaces cannot be charged by USB.
