Battery Warning?

Is there a feature that i could turn on to tell me that my battery is low? I have had my Surface turn off on me twice because i forgot to look at the battery percentage, and there is no warning.

There is a BIG blue band with white text that pops up horizontally on your screen. Obviously in your case it didn't show up. Can you check your power settings for the Notifications? Charm, Search, Edit Power Options.

Alright, because that huge notification just appeared on my Acer S3 (5%) moments ago.
