What are the best options for cases that provide padding and drop protection of a Surface with Type Cover and also have a separate compartment to store power adapter and mouse?

What I had in mind would be much more compact.
Just large enough to comfortably carry the Surface with Type Cover and power brick.

+1 on the VanGoddy mentioned above. Mine is all black and travels superbly well. It has room for all I need to carry (cables, mouse, a file or two) while remaining compact enough to be comfortable. Very satisfied with it.

If you are just looking for a case, I have wanted to grab one of these Cocoon CPG38

They also have some backpacks and messenger backs. The organization aspect is great on them.

Wow, that looks handy. Does it zip closed to keep everything from falling out?

The one I linked directly is just a flap over case, the grid holds things in tightly. If you want a little more security check out some of their other products. I am not a huge backpack person but their slim bag is extremely useful.

for bag i cannot recommend enough this one:

it's avalable in many colors, I use black one which is the most universal. It has very sturdy strap and bag itself is very well built having separate and stiff electronics compartment and 3 additional slots for documents, small stuff, pens and what-nots.

For cases I use Urban Armor Gear and like it a lot
