Displayport to VGA problem

Now i have tried two different mini-displayport to vga adapters and neither of them works. The first one is not recognized at all. The Second one, a generic adapter bought at the local Electronics store was equally unsuccessful.

So what is the story. I thought that displayport was a standard. Advice please.

You may have a port issue with your SP3. I am using an Original Apple DP to VGA adapter and that works flawlessly.

I can confirm that the Tripp-Lite Model: P137-06N-VGA works on the SP3, there are reasonably priced....

The Apple displayport to VGA that came with my mac mini works fine

There must be something wrong with the DisplayPort specification because there are an awful lot of problems across all vendors for something as *simple* as connecting a display.

Both adapters works very well with the surface pro 3.
