You will likely have to do a lot of updates before you will be able to try to update to 10 again... a long arduous road ahead.

If you are bent on getting 10 I think Id consider the downloaded media route.

Well, I have the same problem and my ntb is all updated so I'm confused for what update am I supposed to wait .. :/

Install attempt number 1 from flash drive failed.

Gets hung at 24% every time, and then i just get a generic box that installation failed, with no code. I guess a reset and reinstall is all I have left.

Well a reset, and re-install finally allowed me to successfully upgrade. Was way harder than it should have been.

Well, what if I have a legal system now and I can't upgrade through Windows update ...

Is a ISO way also legal if I make just upgrade? Or the downloaded media route - what is it?

As with the original poster I would just try until it works. If there is some issue with your system trying to force it with the ISO could be a problem made worse.

We have seen a few posts now where Reset cleared the issue preventing upgrade, it's an unfortunate reality.
To get the 'FREE' upgrade you have to complete an upgrade before doing a clean install.
