Google Hangouts Kills Battery

I did a google hangout for a work conference meeting yesterday, and it absolutely destroyed my battery. My estimated time went down to 1:30 on battery bar and it pegged the CPU at 50% for the duration. Any idea on why this is such a battery killer?

Did you ask Google?

That's my experience with Hangouts. Decreasing the video quality will help a little.
