Has anyone dealt with a ProX that died when doing a hard reset?

At 1 year & 4 months, my ProX got stuck in a hard reset. Microsoft Surface support & an independent computer dude couldn't fix it. Microsoft will give me a refurb for $500. Anyone else out there experiencing the same thing? I resent having to pay more money, especially for a refurb.

Can you make a recovery drive on another computer?

I had trouble getting SPX booting from some usb drives in the end I used Sandisk Cruzer 16gb format it as 32bit file system and do a full format not quick.

Once you have downloaded the recovery image double click on it in file explorer and then extract all to the newly formatted usb drive.

You will need a usb converter so that you can attach to SPX

Boot the SPX into bios (Hold Volume Up while pressing power on once, keep pressing volume up till spinning wheel appears then release)

Change boot order so that the usb is at the top of the list now exit to reboot, hold down volume down while rebooting until spinning wheel appears.

If everything works you should see language choices accept yours and keyboard on next screen.
You need to find your way to trouble shooting menu and choose command prompt.
This is where you have to be careful!

Type
diskpart
Type
list disk
type
select drive 0
type
clean
(this stops the recovery sticking at 31%)
Type
exit
type
exit
press back arrow till you see the option to boot from usb drive then choose it
Press and hold volume down while SPX reboots wait for spinning wheel then release
Again Choose language and keyboard
Choose to recover from usb drive and follow instructions.

It worked for me

Good luck

I appreciate the reply. I had a 16gb zip drive & got the recovery drive using another computer. I ran the hard reset, & it got stuck in a reboot loop. I worked closely with Surface Support, & they couldn't get it to stop the reboot loop. I went to an IT specialist in the community, & he couldn't fix it. He told me this is a known issue with the Pro X.

I believe I did format the zip drive as you showed. I never got to the language screen. I never could get the hard reset to complete to move on to the download of the image of my computer. It kept putting a little window up saying it needed to reboot. Surface Support couldn't figure it out & neither did an outside IT company.

Hi

So, you are not sure if you formatted the drive as suggested, rebuild recovery drive again using above method.

Have you done this it will not boot from usb unless you do?
Surface UEFI.jpg

You must have your machine set to boot from usb in bios, hold volume up and press power and release just power button till you see spinning wheel release volume up choose boot configuration and drag usb to the top. press exit once done.

If the SPX still won't boot from usb try interrupting boot process you (press and hold power button till the SPX powers down) press power and release then press and hold power till it shuts down, do this several time 5 or 6 or untill it starts in trouble shooting mode.

If it starts in trouble shooting mode go to advanced startup and follow above to clean SSD and then try retore again.

If this does not work, there are still options, but it will mean spending a small amount of money one these UGREEN M.2 NVMe Enclosure USB C External PCIe M-Key SSD Caddy 10Gbp UASP USB 3.1 Gen 2 M2 Reader Aluminum Thunderbolt 3 Case Compatible with 970 EVO Plus, Crucial P1, WD Black, Kingston NVMe Tool-Free: Amazon.co.uk: Computers & Accessories

Wow, you are so awesome! I appreciate all your suggestions. I do believe I did the zip drive correctly. My computer never let me get to even try it. It never completed a hard reset; it was stuck in the hard reset. I contacted the CEO & CPO (chief product officer) about the issue, & they're sending me a replacement after research all I had tried with their support.
