How to avoid recording fan hiss

Hi there
I'm trying to use the microphone on the Surface Pro 3, but having two main problems: a) the device is recording the fan hiss, and the recording volume is too low, even with the mic set to level 100.

I understand that both of these problems might be improved by using the newest Realtek drivers. I have downloaded and installed this driver, which is dated January of this year.

Supposedly after installing this driver, one should see an "Enhancement" tab where you can enable noise cancellation (to not record the fan hiss) and a "Boost" option under the Level tab.

However, neither of these things show up for me with this driver installed. I've emailed Realtek but so far haven't gotten a response.

Don't get me wrong but why don't you use an external microphone? As a first try, you can use a cable Headset for an Android-Smartphone. I've got good results this way.
