How to change the background color for main windows

My wife types all day long using MS Word. She was able to change the backgroung color from white to light blue in XP and Windows 7, so it isn't hard on her eyes. Now since I got her the Surface Pro as a desktop replacement, she has not been able to change the background color and it is giving her a headache. Black letters over white background right now. Any ideas? Anyone?

Welcome Oscar. There should be no difference on the Surface Pro. Since it doesn't come with Office which version did you install? If it is the same version she would change the background color the same way as before. If it is a different version it would be helpful to know which one.

In Word, Click on the File Tab and select options and you can chose a White, Light Grey or Dark Grey Theme
