Microsoft Surface Pro 9 not charging via a 65W charger

My Microsoft Surface Pro 9 often doesn't charge even though connected to a 65 Watt charger. I have to hit the power button and restart the Surface Pro 9 for it to recognize that it is connected to a charger and start charging. It might be because I use the same charger to also charge my phone and from what I understand there is some sort of intelligent power delivery that these chargers do and therefore the Microsoft Surface Pro 9 might not be recognizing the charger. How can I fix this?

I had a similar problem with a multi-device charger. It seems that the Surface Pro 9 is capricious with the USB-C power supply. Have you tried a dedicated charger only for your Surface? Sometimes an official charger or a better quality cable can solve the problem. If not, checking for firmware updates might also help.

Try resetting the power management on your Surface Pro 9 to resolve possible power issues
Hey, you are a lifesaver. I did this:
  • Open the Command Prompt as an administrator.
  • Type powercfg -restoredefaultschemes

and my 65 watt charging clock started charging again at full speed

Thanks for the suggestions. I was using the Surface Pro with a Microsoft Dock 1 and Dock 2 that I have on my work bench. So I'm pretty sure it is getting enough power.

I'll try the powercfg command.
