SP3 Win8.1 and Blackberry Link 1.2.4.39 not working properly

Hello,
i have a Surface Pro 3 running Windows 8.1 pro and it has issue with Blackberry Link.
BB Link version 1.2.4.39 is currently installed.
I've done all the basic stuff, from restarting, to updates, to re-installing BB link and no change.
i can "run an admin" doesn't improve.
if do not run as admin, i don't stay signed in... i will get a message "Unable to sign in to your Blackberry ID. Confirm you are connected to the Internet and try again."
if i run as admin, it stays signed in...

EG: BB Link will not stay connected to transfer files (photos/video clips) for more than 2 minutes without a reconnect, and it freezes.
so after a couple minutes, i can try to "Send to Computer" in BBLink and the Link software will freeze for a moment with "Not Responding", then "Copy Complete" with a little warning icon will show in "Show Recent Activity", view that and see "Items not found".
I'll reconnect usb and try transfer again...

I've tried to transfer via Windows Explorer and not much more success there.

Has someone crossed this bridge before? thanks in advance :)

Nope have been on that road. you might try uninstalling the Wifi driver and letting it reinstall though. This driver is as bug infested as an outdoor light in the summer. :)

is letting the driver re-install as easy as i think?
(open) Device Manager
(right click) "Microsoft Wi-Fi Direct Virtual Adapter" or "Marvell AVASTAR Wireless-AC Network Controller" or different driver? in "Network adapters.
(left click) Uninstall
then will it re-install if i choose "Scan for hardware changes"?

Yep. just do not click the "remove..." check box and it should reinstall automatically although sometimes you have to nudge it with scan for hardware changes and in rare instances reboot.
 
k, did the uninstall / reinstall.
also uninstalled BB Link and installed drivers only to access my BB Leap via windows explorer.
The BBLeap shows up as Drive:Z
Started a transfer of photos & video clips and after about 2-min.
windows pop-up.

the Leap is connected to usb on docking station, but same thing happens if connected to SP3 usb.
... thoughts?
 
anyone else, have an issue with Blackberry Link not playing nicely with Surface Pro 3?

I found a sort of solution via TomTom.
Tomtom was having "Random Disconnects on Surface 3 Pro"

  • does anyone know a more permanent or non reg-editing solution that will solve for this?
  • can anyone forward this to someone in/at MS to create a more substation solution?

...narrowed it down to only being related to ConnectedStandby, so no need to fiddle with USB settings.
I am using 2 small registry files to disable and re-enable CS.
Unfortunately I can't attach them but you can create them yourself.
Create one text file with name "before_tomtom_upgrade.reg" (really important the reg extension!)
copy below text in it:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Power]
"CsEnabled"=dword:00000000


Create a second file with name "after_tomtom_upgrade.reg" (really important the reg extension!)
copy below text in it:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Power]
"CsEnabled"=dword:00000001


Now the steps to upgrade your TomTom with your SP3 are:
  1. double click the "before_tomtom_upgrade.reg"
  2. confirm the warning
  3. restart your SP3
  4. upgrade the TomTom
  5. double click the "after_tomtom_upgrade.reg"
  6. restart your SP3
