I'm glad that it was not dust.

about your question, simple put, you can't avoid restarts in certain updates, that is just the way it is.

Thanks. I was just wondering whether I have to babysit the process and keep accepting the invitation to reboot or whether there is a way of leaving the SP3 alone to update and reboot to its heart's content.

Yes, just go with the restarts. It's all pretty painless anyway. 2014 tech is ridiculous compared to the crappy 2007 Dell laptop I was using anyway.

Loving my SP3 :D

Thanks everyone. This has a good ending. I went back to the store. Manager looked at it and said he could feel it on the surface. He managed to polish it off with a lint cloth. Said it was some kind of excess glue - probably from the manufacturing process. I was embarrased but relieved.

Whew, glad to hear that! I hadn't gotten the impression that dust was an issue with the SP3, so glad to see that wasn't the case.
