I've referred to numerous sources on the web and every installation I've attempted has cited 'compatibility issues.' The links provided when that happens are effectively dead ends; they don't provide any information or instructions as to what to do.

So, anyone want to post a link to the correct version of sql server management studio for microsoft surface pro? I'm trying to manage SQL Server 2008 R2 SP1 on another machine, but I just need sql server management studio for windows 8 on the surface pro. And no, it's not the RT.

I installed SQL Server 2012 Express and it works just fine. I was able to bring over a copy of my work's databases backups and restore it on my Pro. I even enabled Reporting Services.

I'm using 2012 Express as well, with only SQL Server Management Studio installed. Works fine against 2008 sql r2 databases.
