Can't access camera roll or save photos

Hey guys,

I use my Surface RT at work. I take a lot of photos while walking through homes. I use a mini USB flash drive to save my pics and notes from each home. I do all of this on site and transfer to my laptop. I do not have access to internet while I the road.

Well I copied my camera roll to my drive because I has a lot of unorganized photos. Now that I can't take photos unless the usb drive is plugged in.

I can't seem to access the camera roll or save any photos.
