So I ask again, Why would Microsoft let him put 'Google Maps' in the description? I'd like to see truth in advertising.

Other than Google Search. They are not opposed to get advertising dollars for Windows 8 users.

I won't do that but I thought Microsoft would put some QA into their app screening... Allowing him to use Google Maps is deceptive.

Just install the Google app - it has Google Maps inside, along with Gmail, Calendar, Google News and a lot more.

Here's an update. The guy who wrote the app contacted me before Christmas. I asked him about the Google Name and he kinda ignored that question. He seemed disappointed and discouraged about the negative response he got and said he was considering pulling the app from the store. He also told me he didn't want the app in the RT store and only wanted it to be a desktop app. I can't find it any longer.

Sounds like he either "didn't get it" or was trying to intentionally fool people and is pulling the app after being called out. Not all developers make good apps and some just follow the path to the easiest money. Probably for the better.

I guess as the developer, you want people to know that the app is using the Google Maps layer, but you shouldnt be able to do it in such a way that people think you ARE Google.
