I'm having trouble switching the search engine on my internet explorer app. I figured out how to do it on the desktop version, just not on the app. Any suggestions?

I do not believe the Metro app has an option to change this. The Metro app has very few options, no extensible add ons, and no way to change the search function.
There is a way, but you have to change it in the Internet Explorer Desktop app. Once you change it in the desktop app, it will automatically change the search engine in the Modern app. The directions to change it can be found here: Change and manage search providers - Microsoft Windows
