Surface Pro 3 and VPN problems

I and two of my colleagues recently got latest Surface Pro 3 tablets (512 GB model, i7) and we all have same problem with the VPN. VPN works just fine for one or two minutes, but then it just stops working / connection becomes Limited.

I have same problem with our company's VPN-connection (L2TP) and also with overplay.com's VPN (PPTP) as well. Problem occurs both with WIFI (Surface's Marvell AVASTAR) and fixed ethernet (Surface Ethernet Adapter).

I can typically disconnect/reconnect few times, but then this stops working as well. Only Microsoft's own firewall is installed, and allowing all traffic did not help either.

I had no problems with previous Sony Vaio, also running Windows 8. Also, none of my 50+ other colleagues with VPN has no problems (Win/Mac-users).

Any suggestions?

Welcome aboard! I don't have the answer to your problem. I use two VPN connection. One is using OpenVPN and it works simply put. The other one is using Watchguard Firebox Mobile VPN. I don't know the configuration details on this one but it also works very well. The OpenVPN is using UDP protocol and it works very well, I use it to connect to my home network.

No problem using Cisco AnyConnect Secure Client or Cisco VPN Client on Windows 8.1 and my Surface i7 512. The AnyConnect does not work yet on Windows 10, but the Cisco VPN Client does.

Samuli, does this happen on any Ethernet or WiFi network? A setting for maximum UDP packet sizes on your company's network may be a problem.

I'm not a network specialist but for what I have read UDP is faster but sometimes more unreliable.

Jeff - which model do you have? i5/i7? What HDD?

i5/256 but everything is the same as far as networking goes.... it has to be configuration from your IT Department's VPN implementation...'
