USB port going crazy

Sometimes when I continuously use the USB port (like watching a movie from a HDD) it suddenly shuts down, along with the onboard bluetooth and wifi (adapters just disappear from device manager). After some time they come back up but BT keyboard/mouse and wifi won't connect anymore until I reboot the tablet.

Has anyone encountered this problem ? Is there a fix or a way to prevent it ?
It is a crap HDD though, with lots of bad sectors I've fixed through some software before, can this cause the problem ?

Here's how to fix that:
1. Go out into the backyard or garden where you work or live.
2. Dig a hole.
3. Put that HDD in it

Yes, errors on a USB external drive can easily cause interruptions and even power issues. Some drive failures are from temperature or vibration-caused shorts, not bad sectors, though it can show up as random bad sectors. A head crash, or disc scratch could also cause this, for the same reasons.

3. Put that HDD in it
4. Shoot it with a Colt 45
5. Cover it with dirt and plant a nice tree to mark the spot.
