Windows Update stuck @ Checking for Updates

Hi,

So I finally picked up a SP3 i7 model. So far I have been rather pleased, except for the fact that I cannot get Windows Update to work for the life of me.

It sits at "Checking for updates" for several minutes before finally erroring out, stating that Windows Update could not search for new updates. I was able to load the O/S updates via Power Shell using this method, however that does not seem to locate the firmware updates.

The only thing left of that I can think of to try is to do a factory reset...but I'd rather not start all over again if possible. Does anyone have any ideas?

Unfortunately that did not work.
The troubleshooter did find a problem (screenshot below) and fixed it.
I then ran WU again and it still did not work, ran the troubleshooter again and it found the same problems and "fixed" them.

Well, I eneded up doing a factory reset just before your post.
Luckily that seems to have worked so all is well!
