I think you are ok in that position just not if you fold the keyboard all the way flat to the back and then rest the tablet on that same bottom edge. If you don't mind I would like to see a video if that does in fact place extra stress on the seem of keyboard folding it back flat vs. 90 degrees out with the kickstand resting on it.

I When my battery got low and I turned it off and then turned it back on again I ended up with this problem. It made me want better battery indicators which the Surface RT doesn't seem to have.

Go to the Advance Power Options, there you will see when the Surface wants to Sleep/Hibernate on what battery percent level. I try not to keep my Surface from going below 15%
