It was just tablet pc wasn't it. I remember owning a tablet/laptop that just had tablet pc on it I think it was a compaq

Yes it was a tablet PC. Hint: It was known by a different name 4 letters long. That's a BIG hint.

I always thought the Tandy T100 was the first tablet PC, but I guess it wasn't a 'PC' in the DOS/Windows definition.

BINGO!

Microsoft had a big ad campaign surrounding the release of the UMPC, they called it Origami. The first big hit everyone was waiting on was made by Samsung. (Samsung Q1 Ultra UMPC). Origami was supposed to change the handheld computing landscape forever. It even came with a split integrated keyboard.
