Upgrading to 8.1 - Will i lose my installation of Office ???

hi, I am new to the site, and indeed new to the Surface RT.. I have bought it for my girlfriend for Xmas, I am just updating it, and am looking to update to 8.1, but I have office installed on the unit as part of the package, if I update to 8.1 on the tablet, will I lose the installation of office ?? the only reason I ask, is when I updated my laptop to 8.1 at work, I lost all my programs that where installed, and as a developer, I had to spend quite some time updated my system again.

also, as it came with Office, I don't have any install files for it to reinstall even if I wanted to..

Updating to 8.1RT will also update Office RT which, as you mentioned, came preinstalled with the device.

so does that mean it will just update it to the latest version, or will I lose it ??

It will be upgraded to the latest version that also includes Outlook 2013....
